Module A2.3 - Human Biology II
Coordinator
Prof. Dr. Christoph Biskup
Lecturers
- Biomolecular Photonics Group: Prof. Dr. Christoph Biskup, PD. Dr. Christian Melle
- Institute of Physiology I: Prof. Dr. Christoph Schmidt-Hieber, PD Dr. Andrea Ebersberger
- Experimental Nephrology Group: Prof. Dr. Ralf Mrowka
Content
- Anatomy and physiology of organ systems (in continuation of Human Biology I): Cardiovascular system, respiratory system, gastrointestinal System, kidney and urinary system
- Blood, immune system
- Neuroanatomy and neurophysiology
Components of the module
- Virtual lectures: To view the lectures, please, follow the links to the moodle rooms or to the download page. Please, note that in the summer term we will use two moodle rooms, one for the lectures on vegatative physiology and one for the neurophysiology part.
- In the moodle rooms also additional material, i.e. exercise sheets and plenty of review questions are availabele.
- Seminars: Seminars/tutorials to discuss remaining questions will take place in the lecture hall of the former Institute of Human Genetics. Enter the historic courtyard of the Medical Theoretical Institutes to get access to the lecture hall. A detailed map can be found here.
Additional help
To help you in learning Human Biology the following tools can be borrowed/obtained:
- Molecular models: A set of color coded atoms such as the one used in the lecture videos can be borrowed from the Biomeolecular Photonics group.
- Virtual microscopy: Virtual microscope of the Dept. of Anatomy (link)
Requirements to complete this module
- Self study of the recommended textbook chapters. For this course we will use the 2nd edition of the OpenStax Anatomy & Physiology book. The textbook is available free of charge at https://openstax.org/details/books/anatomy-and-physiology-2e. A pdf of the book can be downloaded here.
- Self study of the online lectures
- Regular work on the exercises
- Successful participation in the written exam
Exam
Please note: date, time and location might be still subject to changes. Check this website for updates.

- Time: 10.00 a.m. (CEST)
- Location: Big lecture hall of the theoretical medical institutes (MTI) - You can enter the building from the historical courtyard of the medical theoretical institutes. Having the lecture hall used for the Human Biology II seminars in your back it is the building to your left. Enter via the door and go to the upper floor.
A link to the exam results will be available here.
Retake
- Date: 11.10.2024
- Time: 10.00 a.m. (CEST)
- Location: Konferenzraum, 1st floor, Institute of Physiology I (Follow this link for directions. If the door to the building is open, take the stairs to the first floor and turn left. If the door is closed wait in the courtyard in front of the door. Somebody will pick you up there.)
