Medical Photonics
To understand diseases, to get a better diagnosis and to achieve a better therapy - these are hopes raised by modern medicine. Light is an important tool which can contribute to this goal.
Optical and photonic technologies allow observing molecular details in cells and tissues. Advanced spectroscopic techniques are used for establishing a medical diagnosis and monitoring the course of a therapy. Moreover, a broad range of therapeutic approaches have been developed ranging from molecular, single cell based approaches to macroscopic surgical strategies.
By creating the new journal Medical Photonics the Biomolecular Photonics Group and all other members of the Editorial Board aim to meet the demand for a journal that covers these emerging technologies as well as biomedical research based on new photonic technologies.
Medical Photonics will publish recent advances in biomedical and clinical research based on modern optical technology. Reports on biooptical studies are as welcome as reports on new concepts in instrumentation and technology in the field of photonics. With the enormous progress achieved in the past years in the field of laser biophysics, engineering and biomedical optics, Medical Photonics aims at serving the optical and medical community with up-to date information, comprehensive reports on high-impact research projects and the latest developments in the field.
