Our SmartAge ESR7, Kanni Das Shailaja from Semmelweis University/CROmed Research in Hungary, completed in June 2024 her secondment at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. Here, Kanni would like to share her experiences with us:
"The Karolinska Institute (KI) in Stockholm, Sweden, is one of the forefront medical research institutes in the world. Most importantly, The Nobel Assembly at the KI awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. So far, KI produced seven Nobel laureates.
I did my work with Dr. Rochellys Diaz Heijtz, Department of Neuroscience. The lab focuses on the biological basis of neurodevelopmental disorders. The lab uses different transgenic mouse models for the study. I learned about mice genotyping techniques. This will help to identify the expected genotype in a cohort of mice. I also gained hands-on experience in some basic molecular biology techniques such as RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, and q-PCR. Inés Martínez Sánchez (ESR 6) helped me to learn the assays. During my secondment, I also got a chance to attend FENS Forum 2024 in Vienna, which was a great experience for me. During my free time, I also explored the city of Stockholm.
Thank a lot to Ines and Rochellys for hosting me and also for their wonderful support"
