Organisation
The legal basis for the organisation of Jena University Hospital is the Thuringian Higher Education Act (Thüringer Hochschulgesetz, ThürHG). With the change in legal form that came into force on 1 January 2007, Jena University Hospital became an independent institution and a public corporation. Details of the organisation are regulated by the UKJ charter.
The Faculty of Medicine and the UKJ work together in an organisation that includes the individual departments such as clinics, institutes and central areas such as administration. The highest supervisory body of the UKJ is the Administrative Board, while the Executive Board is responsible for managing the hospital. The Dean and the Faculty Council are responsible for the management of the Faculty of Medicine. The Dean of Studies is responsible for all matters relating to the degree programme.
You can find an overview of the exact structures in our organisational chart (as of June 2025, German).
Together with the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society, the UKJ defines a target and performance agreement. You can find the UKJ's target and performance agreement for the years 2021 to 2025 on the Ministry's website.
