Preparations at home
You only need to bring a small amount of luggage for your stay with us. To make you feel comfortable, we recommend that you bring comfortable clothing such as a tracksuit, sleepwear, slippers and a robe or bathrobe. You should also bring your own cosmetics and toiletries, important telephone numbers, writing utensils and, if necessary, your glasses or hearing aid. If you would like to listen to music undisturbed, please remember your MP3 player. An exciting book or crossword puzzle could also help you pass the time.

- If available: Exemption from co-payment
- Hospital referral from your family doctor or referral slip for outpatient surgery
- Requested examination results for preparation for surgery and anesthesia
- Overview of the medication you take regularly
- If available: Blood thinner pass, allergy pass, sugar pass, X-ray pass and images, pacemaker pass, prosthesis pass
- If available: Reports from your family doctor or documents from previous hospital stays
Please leave large sums of money and valuables such as jewelry at home, as we cannot accept any liability for them.

Information regarding admission of self-paying patients to the Jena University Hospital (JUH)
Pursuant to Section 11 (1) of the General Terms and Conditions of Contract of the Jena University Hospital (GTC), all patients without statutory health insurance cover in Germany are directly liable for payment to the Jena University Hospital.
These direct payers must pay an appropriate advance payment based on the planned services before admission to the Jena University Hospital. The advance payment is based on the expected fees.
The following procedure is generally applicable:
- The patient contacts the appropriate department at Jena University Hospital (JUH)
- Preparation and submission of a list of anticipated costs incurred by JUH to the patient by Patient Administration, after input from the department and medical controlling.
- Payment of the anticipated treatment costs to the clinic’s account: IBAN: DE48 8305 3030 0000 0002 30, BIC: HELADEF1JEN (Sparkasse Jena Deutschland)
- After receipt of funds to the account above:
- Sending of a written invitation by the treating department requesting signature
- Arrival at the agreed admission date and treatment at JUH
- Transportation to and from JUH, translator and all costs for accompanying persons must be financed and organized by the patient.
Patient admission
When you arrive, you have to check in at the reception desk – this applies to the new building in Lobeda as well as to the other locations in the Landgrafen area. Here you will be given more information about the next steps. Here your relatives and visitors will also be informed on which ward you are accommodated.
First, your personal data will be registered. So please head to the stationäre Patientenaufnahme, german for "inpatient admission". At the hospital in Lobeda it is only a few steps away from the main entrance. In the other hospitals in the city centre the registration will be done in these facilities. After your registration you will be given the application form for the admission and further information. Please take your time to read the documents.

Mobility needs
f you need help on your way through the clinic, you will be met at reception by the patient support staff and accompanied to your ward. At the Lobeda site, four patient guides are also on hand to ensure that you always reach your destination safely. You can recognize the friendly helpers by their green polo shirts and blue jackets with the words “Patientenlotse”, german word for patient guide, on them. If your companion would like to do this, wheelchairs and luggage trolleys are available.
