In Tune with Hormones: Key Life Stages in Focus – Video Interview with Prof. Markert.
Hormones regulate many crucial life stages from puberty through family planning to menopause—and they influence not only fertility but also the immune system, metabolism, and long-term health.
New research projects by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) are investigating how hormones, obesity, modern fertility treatments, and innovative contraceptive methods affect women’s reproductive health.
Health research is increasingly focusing on female hormones and their effects on important life stages. The main topics include reproductive health, family planning, new contraceptive methods, and the management of menopause, which can cause significant discomfort for millions of women in Germany.
To better understand these issues, the ministry is funding several junior research centers that explore, among other things, the impact of obesity, innovative fertility preservation strategies, and early pregnancy processes. The goal is to improve therapies and counseling in a gender-sensitive manner and to better support women throughout all hormonal phases of life.
