Health knowledge in research as well as in clinical contexts is usually understood as scientifically generated and transferred into practice. However, this understanding of knowledge which is necessary for medical research and practice distracts from the production of popular health knowledge, that people encounter in everyday life outside of clinics and practices. Various sources like the book market, the Internet, magazines or television are offering a wide range of popular information about human health. This subject is examined in the research project GewiMe (the German acronym for: Health Knowledge in Popular Media) regarding the provenance, transfer and acquisition of health knowledge.

HzV-Kardio: Evaluation of a healthcare program cardiology contract of the AOK according to § 73c SGB V in Baden-Wurttemberg (FKz: 01VSF16003)

German health policy legislation (§73c SGB V) allows contracts between Social Health Insurances (SHI) and outpatient physicians (general practitioners and specialists) to enable special and innovative programs of healthcare. To optimize healthcare for patients with cardiovascular diseases, such a contract was concluded between the largest SHI in Baden-Wurttemberg (AOK Baden-Wurttemberg) and SHI-accredited cardiologists. The contract entails different quality arrangements and incentives.

Beside the University of Frankfurt am Main (Institute of General Practice, work package 1), the aQua Institute, Göttingen (work package 3) and the University of Heidelberg (Department of General Medicine and Health Services Research, work package 4), we, the University Hospital Jena (Institute of General Practice and Family Medicine, work package 2), are partner in the evaluation of this contract.

Our work package focuses on health care utilisation and their costs (health economic analysis) by analysing insurance claims data of AOK Baden-Wurttemberg. With focus on different cardiovascular diseases (coronary heart disease, heart insufficiency, cardiac arrhythmias, valvular heart diseases and atrial fibrillation), a cohort of patients participating in the program (intervention group) will be compared to a cohort of patients in regular healthcare (control group).

Vaccination 60+ (Impfen60+)

Influenza and pneumococcal vaccination can prevent severe diseases and complications like sepsis, especially for the elderly. In order to increase vaccination rates, an evidence-informed campaign will be starting in Thuringia, aiming at improving knowledge and willingness to get vaccinated. Partner in this intervention study are the University of Erfurt (CEREB - Center of Empirical Research in Economics and Behavioral Science, Media and Communication Science), the University Hospital Jena (Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, the Institute for Infectious Diseases and Infection Control), the Robert Koch Institute and the Lindgrün GmbH.

As a part of this study we will investigate the differences in healthcare costs and resource utilization in citizens aged over 60 years with or without influenza and pneumococcal vaccination based on claims data of a major health insurance fund.
