At the 27 institutes and 25 clinical centers of the university hospital Jena, the scientists and physicians work both in the fields of fundamental biomedical research and in patient-related clinical research. Therein two foci of research have grown. Concentrating on this profile but also covering the broad range of clinical research, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research is a proven instrument for promoting young researchers and internal initial funding of research groups.

In 2009, scientist at the school of medicine raised an amount of 18.7 Mio Euro of Third-party funds for research projects. They published 676 articles in refereed journals with total impact of 2343. For a complete review of research at the Jena Univerity Hospital see our research report (german).
